Vacation Church School enrolled 50 children and cost $460.00 according to Anne. Anne
requests that her budget remain $750 for 2007. Thirty backpacks filled
with supplies were put together with Trinity Church taking 4 of them for their
children in need. Pastor Kimberly is following up about the casualness
of receiving the backpacks and the difficulty in finding out what their clients
needed with the director of the Homeless Shelter, Lewis Gill. The topic
for 2007 Vacation Church School will be Missions and will include stories such
as the Good Samaritan. Anne was thanked again for doing a great job.
Sunday School has started without any problems and with the new configuration
of children's classes. September's collection will go towards the General
Fund and October's collections will go to Unicef. The presentation of
Bibles to Third Graders was missed last year but there was only one student. She
will receive her Bible along with the current 3rd Graders in the spring of
2007. Anne will be receiving a copy of a Bible from Cokesbury to
examine for use in the classrooms. We may use this Bible for Sunday School
classrooms and order engraved Bibles for the 3rd Grade presentation. Anne
has cleaned out the cabinets in the old 3rd and 4th Grade classroom (Room 2
- currently jr. high's classroom) for Lilly and Barbara to use during
the Bazaar.
The Youth Group will host a Baked Potato Luncheon on September 17th. The
youth will need to work Saturday and Sunday mornings to prepare. The
Youth will be asking for donations of desserts and condiments. It will
be a free will donation to raise money for the Youth Group. Jennifer
Armantrout and Jean Meyers will be at the Youth Group Meeting this Sunday night
to help make a Prayers & Squares Quilt.
The Youth need long term leadership. They have a clean building and are
working to make it their own space. Their meetings are between 5 and
7 p.m. each Sunday night.
From 5:00 - 5:30 the youth connect with each other and have fellowship.
5:30- 6:00 they share a meal and clean-up though this can take less time.
6:00 - 6:15 a devotional is given - currently by an adult leader but with the
plan that the youth will eventually take over. "Diving Deep" is
a suggestion for devotions.
6:15 - 6:45 Activity
6:45 - 7:00 Clean-Up
There are 3 Zones: Kitchen/Food; Christ Candle and Center; and a living room.
David Hanley is working on a sound system.
One Sunday of the month will be with Anne and Phil Maxwell with the focus
on Missions;
Two Sundays will be with Hank and Pastor Kimberly
One Sunday will be ?. Trinity will be asked if
they could sponsor this evening since their youth attend.
It was brought up that an Orientation might be helpful for those that are considering
helping with the Youth Group. They are planning an Open House after church
once they have the building ready.
They are also thinking of hosting the younger children for a Parent's Night
Out (with the qualification that all parent's must leave a cell phone number
where they can be reached.
Anne will work with Hank on a calendar and then fill in as adults volunteer.
Pastor Kimberly does not feel that her role should be long term and that the
rest of the congregation needs to "step up" to help with the Youth
Group. She also does not feel that the Youth's parents should be involved
with the Sunday night meetings.
Adult Studies - Anne is to call Jane Hanley and Stella will contact Bernadine. Barbara
will be back in mid-October and will then start up the Thursday Morning Group. The
Wednesday Evening Group will hold its first meeting this evening. Pastor
Kimberly's Sunday morning class has about 7 students and Nick's class has 4-6
members. Pastor Kimberly will be investigating to find out why more adults
are not coming to classes.
Anne will be gone from October 15th to November 16th.
The next Education Meeting will be held October 4th at 3:30 pm. Anne
may not be back in time for it but will leave updates for the group.
