The Education Budget for 2006 was discussed and approved though there were
questions about the monies needed for the adult, youth, workshops and conferences. Anne
felt that out-of-town workshops were unnecessary and had not seen any in
town that were appropriate for the education committee. Anne had already
turned in her Sunday School and Vacation Church School budget so the discussion
was to bring us up to date on what it was felt the needs were going
to be for the coming year. The following was approved by the
Education Committee:
Adult Education $500.00
Sunday School $3,000.00
Confirmation/Bibles $500.00
Vacation Church School $650.00
Anne reported that the Sr. High is still split on those who want to
do a Sunday School class and those that do not want to be involved. She
is trying to come up with activities that they will all want to be involved
with such as presenting Shared Ministry Moments during worship services. It
was brought up that acolytes would be another method of involving the children
in the service. Sunday School is going well and the opening moments
with Heidi and Margaret leading the music is greatly appreciated.
Anne is currently looking for an appropriate Children's Program for
Christmas. Anne
and Kimberly have tentatively decided that it will be presented at the
early Christmas Eve Service. There was discussion as to just what families
will be in town for that service. Anne will need a commitment from
key families by the end of the month so the appropriate play can
be chosen.
Adult Education's new classes will begin October 23rd. Kimberly will
be teaching Bible 101 and Jerry Ludeke will lead "When Religion Becomes
Evil". Kimberly's class will run for 5 weeks and end by Advent
and Jerry's class will continue though the Advent season. There
is no leader as of yet for an Advent Class. Caroline suggested that we
determine the leadership for the Advent class before we select materials. Anne
has materials on various subjects for classes available.
Josh Huddleston was not present to report on the Youth or to report
on the budget requests.
It was brought up that the Greening of the Church and the Charge
Conference are both on November 27th. We discussed whether there would
still be a luncheon with the conference dinner that night. Education
Committee feels that the Greening is important to families of the church
and the luncheon had been agreed upon as a replacement to the yearly Greening
dinner. This is also the time that was rescheduled to pack the items
for the Homeless Shelter. It is not certain at this time if we
will be decorating a Gathering Place Tree.
Next Meeting:
Education's next meeting will be November 2nd at 5:00 p.m. in the Education Lounge. With the Wednesday Evening Group moving their time up, we will need to start promptly at 5:00 and will try to be finished between 6:00 - 6:15. A light meal will be provided but it would be a courtesy for those who cannot attend to call or e-mail Stella or Jean Ann so the quantity of food needed for preparation be known. Reports or concerns not on the regular agenda need to be turned in ahead of time so the necessary time may be alloted.
