Christian Education Minutes from February 1, 2006

Present: Stella Rous, Cindy Wilson, Anne Scott, Caroline Close, Nick Strobel, Barbara Dethlefson
Absent: Lillle Johnson, Darlene Phillips, Carol Sayer, Jean Ann Lansche, Pastor Kimberly Willis

Sunday School:  Anne reported Margaret Grant is doing good things with children learning songs from worship service.  Children are learning the meaning of things that are done at worship during the opening time of the Sunday School hour.  Jr. High students go right to their class.  Wonderful teachers are using Exploring Faith curriculum.  We need adult Sunday School classes to keep parents involved with materials provided free of charge.  There are 10-25 children in Sunday School.  Pat Carter is leading Sr. High Sunday School.  Hank Webb is leading the Jr. - Sr. high Youth Group which meets the 2nd and 4th Sundays in Oglesby.  Cindy Wilson will be the conduit from the Youth to this  committee.

Adult Sunday School:  Nick continues to teach Methodism 101, Structure in the lounge.  When this class finishes he will teach Methodist Beliefs.  Dwight Reynolds is teaching Encountering Jesus by Zan Holmes, jr.  in TGP and will teach a Lenten Study.

Children:  Anne reported that the children are making a planter for an auction item.  Anne mentioned that Pat Carter expects Kimberly to take over Sr. High Sunday School when she gets back in April.

Retreat:  Stella reported that Kimberly recommends an Education Committee Retreat.  Jean Ann has volunteered her home for April 29, May 6, or May 20.  April 29th Anne would be away.  The Retreat will be held Saturday,  May 6th. 

Budget:  Anne reported Sunday School budget is $3,300 and VBS is $650.

Adult Education:  Bernadine Noxin is leading a meditation class Wednesday mornings.  Caroline reported that Wednesday night class is going well.  Barbara reported that Thursday morning class is all going well.  Anne has found a Lenten Study book: Living with the Mind of Christ: A Lenten Study for Adults by James Harnish that Barbara will use during Lent.
