Christian Education Meeting

August 3, 2005

Present: Pastor Kimberly, Anne Scott, Caroline Close, Stella Rous, Jean Ann Lansche

Stella read Nick's list of Christian Ed responsibilities and purpose.

Pastor Kimberly's surgery is scheduled for August 29th.

There will be a Prayer Quilt presentation for Marilynn Barnes this Sunday (August 7th) at church as a going away present.

August 21st - during church service there will be a presentation by VBS students, a blessing of school graduates as they continue in the next phrase of their lives, and a Blessing of the Children for their new school year.

Anne reported that "One Room Schoolhouse" is progressing nicely for the summer with 2 more lessons to be presented.

Everything is planned for Vacation Bible School though an assistant is still needed for Caroline Close's class. There will be a registration in the Narthex for the next 2 Sundays. Anne has been out of town so has not checked yet to see how many registration forms have been completed. Anne will be doing follow up this week to check on all departments for VBS and has a meeting scheduled for teachers August 7th, after the worship service.

Fall Sunday School materials are in and there will be a Sunday School  teachers workshop on August, 6th from 9-11 a.m. Materials are free from Cokesbury. The goal is still to have 2 teachers in each classroom. Anne will be discussing with the teachers the possibility of combining the grades differently this fall so as to utilize teachers better:

preschool would stay the same;

1st & 2nd would now be 1,2 & 3;

3rd &4th would now be 4, 5 & 6;

jr. high would now include 7th, 8th and 9th

Anne will talk with the upper high school students to find out if they would prefer to still have their own class or if they would like to join the adult Sunday School classes.

It is our understanding at this time that the Worship Committee will propose to the Administrative Board that we continue with one worship service until Pastor Kimberly recovers from her surgery. Based on that the

tentative times for Sunday School will be 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. with church following at 10:15. Sunday School will meet as a whole briefly before classes for songs, offering and perhaps a brief message regarding our theme of the month. This will enable teachers to attend the worship service and encourage other adults to attend the adult classes.

Adult Sunday School classes were discussed with thought that there would be 2-3 classes running simultaneously in a trimester form created from a pool of volunteer leaders. Caroline will contact Jerry Ludeke about choosing one of the first classes on a topic of her choice about a contemporary topic and Nick Strobel to see if he would be willing to teach a "Living in the Faith" series. Anne Scott will check with Jane Hanley regarding a parenting class revolving around raising Christian children in today's society.

The second session of adult classes will perhaps be Bible 101 with Pastor Kimberly; "Beyond 30 Seconds" and "How to be a Lay Speaker".

Long term Adult Classes will continue in same format:

Wednesday evenings as an in depth study and Thursday mornings as a fellowship and discussion lesson. Pastor Kimberly will conduct a membership class from her home during her surgery recovery time.

Next meeting is scheduled for September 7th at 5:00 p.m. in the Lounge. Jean Ann will provide a meal. Reminder cards will be sent. Please call Stella or Jean Ann if you can not attend and/or if you have any concerns to be addressed. Educations role in the 50th celebration will be discussed.
